Lumiere, the UK’s largest light festival, is returning to illuminate the streets of Durham from 16th – 19th November 2017.
Created by Artichoke, the UK’s leading producers of art in the public realm, Lumiere Durham will bring together UK and international artists into a spectacular four-night event, transforming Durham’s public spaces into an outdoor gallery.
Completely free-of-charge visitors can enjoy dramatic light sculptures and installations ranging from a gigantic illuminated mobile over the River Wear to an illuminated field of flowers in the Cathedral cloister, a meditative paradise of birds in the Botanic Garden, and a sparkling spectacle in Durham’s Market Place.
The festival will be accompanied by a one-day conference entitled Who are we and where are we headed? (Friday 17th November 2017). Open to the public the conference will bring together visionary speakers to big conversations of today and the looming questions of tomorrow.
