A word associated with abstract expressionism and/or the New York School of painting and in particular with Jackson Pollock and his drip paintings. The emotion of the artist and the dynamism of the composition is visible in the resulting splashes and dots and lines. All these elements are created through a freestyle technique that is the sum of some deliberate acts, some more subconscious, and an element of chance that gets to stay if welcome or is covered again if not. The French have a term for the same notion and that is tachism.
