Opposing the former repressive regime of Apartheid in South Africa, Afrapix was a photographers’ collective and agency founded in 1982. It encouraged its members to use photography as activism.
The photographs and projects produced through Afrapix were labeled as struggle photography and the artists rightly regarded themselves as political activists engaged in raising international awareness about the unjust reality of racial oppression.
