There are many different types of brushes, and there are some emerging standards of how to categorise them and for artists to make sense of them.
B- Brights indicate that they are flat, square-edged and long sable
F- Flats have square edges, long bristle
L- Longs are flat, square-edged, and have long sable
R- Rounds are rounded meaning that in the middle there is pointed bristle.
Then there are also so-called ‘Filberts’ which are flat, oval edged, and long fibered.
