Ceramics

Essentially, ceramics is the art of making objects of clay and firing them in a kiln. Earthenwares, porcelain and some sculptures are made by by ceramicists, i.e. artists working with ceramics. Enamel or enamelling is also a ceramic technique. Ceramic wares can be decorated with slip, engobe or glaze applied in various techniques such as resist, mishima and sanggam. Pots may be made using the coil method, the slab method or some other technique e.g. on a potter’s wheel. Particularly pottery is an ancient art that reached a high level of sophistication in all cultures and in particularly in China and Greece.
