An American art movement focusing on abstraction. It emerged in the 1940 in New York and spread to Canada and the UK from whence it reached a point of culmination around 1960. The abstract works of art often display large areas of colours separated into blocks. Colour field artists have been quite fond of colour zones applied in stripes, dartboard targets and geometric patterns.
