Figuration Libre

A French art movement of the 1980s, and a term coined by the Fluxus artist Ben Vautier. Figuration Libre means free figuration. It is the French home-grown variant of so-called ‘Bad Painting’ and Neo-expressionism. The group had similar proponents in Germany called ‘Junge Wilde’, and ‘De Vilde’ in Denmark and ‘Transvanguardia’ in Italy.
