Fine wire usually made of gold, silver or other metal worked into the art or artifact in delicate and intricate designs. The wire is often twisted, curled and soldered with great precision. Filigree as an art form has developed in different cultures independently. Thus it is part of the art vocabulary in the ancient Greece, and was almost synonymous with celtic art. In Europe, Filigree is considered to have reached a peak in the 17th century Italy.
