A 19th Century group of French painters who were greatly inspired by Paul Gauguin (1848-1903) in the use of similar patterns and use of expressive colours to set a certain mood or emotion. The best known Nabis artists were Pierre Bonnard (1867-1947) and Edouard Vuillard (1860-1940). Nabis is not a French word but is derived from Hebrew word for ‘Prophet’.
