The term is not so much an art movement as it is a style of art or an artistic focus on one subject matter: namely space. With the advent of space travel, much space art has appeared which incorporates our developing knowledge about outer space in illustration and painting in particular.
Commercial artistis and photographers working for e.g. Nasa have also worked to promote exploration of space, and have since then founded the International Association of Astronomical Artists.
Known space artists are Nicholas Solovioff, Tom O’Har, Billy Morrow Jackson, Robert McCall, and Leonard Dermott.
