A technique for transferring a fresco painting from a wall. It is not for the faint-hearted restorer and there is a genuine risk of ruining the fresco.
It is necessary sometimes to repair and prevent further deterioration of a wall or you might want to transfer the fresco from an original wall to a new. Whatever the reason the process is that of applying layers of cloth with a strong animal glue.
When the cloth is pulled away the painting goes with it, and you can then apply a new backing of cloth to the motif, and remove the front by dissolving the glue.
