In art, a tirage is a legal document for the buyers of graphic editions. The word “tirage” is a synonym for a printing in French.
The document informs the art buyer of when their limited edition print was printed. In addition, it clearly states the size of the edition (ie how many copies having been printed), and the techniqe and paper medium used.
A Tirage helps reassure the buyer. It strengthens any claim of attribution, is part of the provenance record, and finally it helps in matters of valuation, insurance, and future resale.
