A German style of painting which deliberately combined excellent draughtsmanship with ugly and disturbing motifs. The almost hyperreal style was developed in the 1970s with the idea of exposing the alienating nature of our modern age. The artists behind this approach were Ulrich Baehr, Charles Diehl, Wolfgang Petrick and Peter Sorge.
